Increasing the risks of the spread of in-hospital infection during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine

Katrushov O.V., Kaydashev I.P.

  • Poltava State Medical University, Poltava, Ukraine

Summary. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the risks of the emergence and spread of nosocomial infections are sharply increasing. This is especially true of the airborne transmission route, when the large-scale use of oxygen therapy carries the risk of contamination of the air environment in hospitals with aerosols, which are formed during controlled breathing apparatus. It is necessary to implement measures for effective prevention of air pollution of a hospital with aerosols, in dentistry, where saliva ejectors are used, in surgical departments, where fluid suction devices are used (exudate, pus, etc.). It is necessary to equip three centralized systems for ensuring functioning these premises: supply of medical purified sterile oxygen; supply of purified sterile air to ventilators; vacuum removal of exhaust air from ventilators, saliva ejectors, suction of biological fluids with mandatory disinfection before being released into the atmosphere.
