The most numerous group in 2381 (61.72%) patients included ones with bleeding from ulcers of stomach and duodenum. In this group, the conservative treatment and endoscopic hemostasis were effective in 93.87%, and mortality was 1.83%, while among operated patients mortality reached 17.36%. A small number of surgical interventions — 176 (4.56%) — among patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding was caused by the effective conservative and endoscopic hemostasis.
